Frequently Asked Questions

Q1

What are the requirements for getting involved?

Any BC student is allowed, and encouraged, to get involved with the MT Wing! There are a variety of jobs and positions available, both on and off stage. Overall, there are executive board positions (see The Board page) and general member positions. Board positions must be applied for at the end of each year, and consist of 7 individuals that run the MT Wing. Their duties include organizing events, coming up with ideas, running social media and advertising, working with student services, etc. Each board member is assigned a title that comes with specific responsibilities (click here to download our constitution to see these various positions and responsibilities). General members are  made up of anyone who is participating in an MT Wing event that is not on the board (this excludes audience members). Additionally, board members are allowed to audition for and/or participate in any events held by the MT Wing.

Q2

How do I get involved?

It's really easy to get involved with the MT Wing! If you're looking to be a performer, you'll have to audition for each event (we promise it's really not scary). If you want to work backstage or wish to be considered for a directorial position, or have an idea for an event you'd like to run, please let us know ASAP so we can take it under consideration. Those wishing to be on the executive board, please fill out an application for the following school year (link to the application will be included once it's available). One of our biggest goals is to create a diverse group of people within the MT Wing, not just those that are already invovled in the theatre department at BC, so please don't feel shy when auditioning or applying, because we want you to succeed, and we want to work with you!

Q3

How is the MT Wing different from other student theatre groups?

Unlike those groups, such as the Dramatic Society and Contemporary Theatre, we don't produce full musicals/plays. Instead, we have a larger goal of increasing musical theatre performance opportunities, as well as education and service. We hope to acheive this by running cabarets, dance performance pieces, staged readings, holding workshops and panels with professionals, and taking our love for musical theatre into the greater Boston area. The off campus performances will take the form of service outreach, upholding BC's mission of ‘Men and Women for Others,’ by bringing the cabarets to venues like schools and nursing homes in nearby communities.

Q4

How big is the time commitment?

At BC, time commitment is important because so many students are involved in so many clubs and classes. For general members, the time commitment is fairly low. We will have rehearsals for events (some might have more depending on the difficulty of the performance), but it's generally flexible. Board members have a higher commitment, as we have weekly meetings and much planning to do. Again, we can be flexible with this, but it's definitely more of a commitment than a general member position.

For our Volunteer Performance Group (also known as VPG), members will have 3 mandatory rehearsals, and are required to perform at least once with the group. Rehearsals and performances will generally be on Saturdays. For more info, click here.
